How to Know If You're on Someone's Close Friends List

Updated 2026-10-22 · ClosePush Team

You know you are on someone's Close Friends list when you see a green ring around their story, or a green "Close Friends" label at the top of it. That is the only reliable sign. Instagram has no notification, setting or list that tells you.

The signs

  • A green ring around their profile picture in your story tray.
  • A green star label saying "Close Friends" at the top of the story.
  • A green star on a post, reel or note shared with Close Friends.

If you never see a green story

It doesn't mean you're not on the list. Many people never post to Close Friends. And if you used to see green stories and don't anymore, they may have stopped posting to the list, or removed you. Instagram won't tell you which.

Avoid "Close Friends checker" apps

Apps that claim to show whose list you are on can't access that data. Some just steal your login. Never give your Instagram password to a third-party app.

On the other side: being added by creators

Many creators add all their followers to Close Friends to make their stories stand out, so being on a creator's list doesn't mean much personally. If you're a creator yourself, here's how to add all your followers, automatically with ClosePush.
