What Is Close Friends on Instagram and How Does It Work?

Close Friends is a list you create on Instagram to share stories (and also posts, reels and notes) with only some people. Stories shared to Close Friends show a green ring and a green "Close Friends" label. Only you can see who is on your list, and nobody is notified when you add or remove them.
How Close Friends works
- You build the list from your profile menu, under "Close Friends".
- When you post a story, you choose "Your story" (everyone) or "Close Friends" (only your list).
- People on the list see your Close Friends story with a green ring in their story tray.
- Nobody else can see it, even if your account is public.

- Feed posts and reels: you can limit a post or reel to Close Friends when you share it.
- Notes: short notes above the inbox can be shared with Close Friends only.

What the green ring means
